This Handmade ground Walnut Emery Pincushion / Pattern Weight is a perfect sewing accessory to keep your pins sharp and dry and burr free or to weigh down your sewing patterns.
What's great about this pincushion? In my opinion, as a sewer, I like the height of it. When I use a deeper pincushion, I tend to "lose" the smaller straight pins in it. This height allows me to grab a pin out of it or to stick one into it easily and quickly without any digging. My second favorite thing is the the walnut shell emery inside it. It gives it weight, which for me means, I don't pick up the whole pincushion when I try to pull a pin out and I can use it to weight down a pattern on top of my fabric. Can some of them poke out the bottom? Every once in a while but since it sits flat, I have not found this to be an issue.
I used to use the magnetic pin dish but was always sticking myself with pins when I went to grab a pin and since I use different thicknesses and lengths of pins, I kind of had to dig into the magnetic one. With this type I can divide it up with the type of pin. big ones on one side and small ones on the other side and a few safety pins on the sides.
It also make a great Pattern weight with or without pins. It's really handy to have the pins right there when you need a little extra help to make that pattern lay down while you are cutting it out.
